Privacy, in plain words
DogEar was built so there is almost nothing to promise: your documents never reach us in the first place.
Your documents stay on this device
Documents you paste or upload are kept in this browser’s local storage, on this device only. They are not uploaded, not synced, and not backed up anywhere by DogEar. If you clear your browser’s site data, or remove a document in the app, it is gone.
Things are kept per device and per browser. A document you add here does not appear on your other devices — there is no DogEar account to sign in with.
The one network exception: fetching a link
When — and only when — you use From a link, our server fetches that page once, extracts the readable text, and returns it to your browser. The fetched page is processed in memory and is not stored. Like any web request, the fetch itself passes through our hosting provider’s standard edge logs (time, address requested, response code); we do not build profiles from it and there are no analytics or trackers in this app.
Voices
Reading aloud uses your browser’s speech voices. DogEar prefers voices that live on your device. Some browsers also offer network voices, which send the text being read to the browser maker’s servers to produce the speech — that is your browser’s doing, and your browser’s voice settings decide which voices exist. If keeping text fully on-device matters for a document, pick an on-device voice in your browser or system settings.
What we do not do
No accounts. No advertising. No analytics or tracking in this app. No selling or sharing of anything — there is nothing of yours here to share.
